Victoria Butterfly Gardens is all about showcasing the hundreds of free-flying butterflies that are available for you to enjoy, within a controlled tropical environment. There are up to 50 species from around the world represented in our gardens.

The entire growth cycle of butterflies and moths is here for you to enjoy. The emerging room hosts the start of life for these winged beauties and you are able to witness this remarkable commencement of life. You will also be able to see very small butterfly eggs that have been deposited on the host plants of the gardens. The diversity of size, shape, color and patterns, and behaviour make these delicate winged creatures a delight to see.

The numerous species of butterflies you can find hosted in our gardens are listed in our learning centre. Use the links on the left to find more detailed information and photographs of various butterfly and moths.

Learn about metamorphosis as the butterflies emerge from chrysalides at the emerging window.

Watch butterflies as they feast on fruit trays or gather nectar from flowering plants.

Our butterflies are not collected from the wild. They come from butterfly farming operations. The captive breeding of butterflies is well suited to tropical regions and can be an environmentally beneficial endeavour through the release of excess production into the wild and the culture of native shrubs, flowers and trees as host and nectar plants.

Go to our Learning Center for details on the butterflies in our gardens.
