...caterpillars have 1,000 muscles and no bones and they taste with their feet?
...caterpillars eat 20 times their weight in food everyday – if babies ate as much as that, they would be as big as a double decker bus in two months!
...carnivorous plants have no teeth but are meat eaters – and we haven’t lost anyone, yet!
Welcome to our Learning Centre, a place where you can learn more about the butterflies, birds, ducks, fish, and plants that make up Victoria Butterfly Gardens. You’ll find photos and descriptions, along with ideas and answers to questions.
Visitors come to Victoria Butterfly Gardens for a magical journey where fun and education come together in amazement and discovery. This field trip to our gardens will bring to life all you have been taught about one of nature’s most amazing insects – the butterfly.
Show your children the wonders of nature by providing them with the opportunity to witness first hand the life cycle of the butterfly. Bring your class and our guides will provide a tour touching on all the aspects of life in the gardens. The children will learn to truly appreciate these amazing insects they are about to see flying freely in the gardens.
Once inside the gardens, children will be taken on a walking tour, highlighting all the gardens have to offer. Following the tour, children will be anxious to hunt for eggs and pupae on their own.
Of interest in the gardens this year is an intriguing carnivorous plant bog where children will learn about and witness fascinating plants that survive by eating small bugs and insects – however butterflies are off limits! Another great exhibit is the “Foods of the World” display where children can see pineapples, papaya, bananas and so much more growing in our tropical gardens.
