Painting Class with Debra Thomlinson
Join local wildlife artist Debra Thomlinson for Paint in Paradise, a relaxing two-hour watercolour workshop inspired by the beauty of Victoria Butterfly Gardens. Begin your experience with a self guided exploration of the lush tropical gardens, observing vibrant butterflies, exotic birds, and colourful plants before settling into our Atrium to create your own nature-inspired masterpiece.
Debra will guide you step-by-step through a custom watercolour painting designed exclusively for each month’s workshop, making every session a unique creative experience. Whether you're picking up a paintbrush for the first time or you're an experienced artist, this welcoming class is designed for all skill levels.
Tickets include all supplies, guided instruction, and full admission to the gardens. Guests are welcome to explore the gardens before and after the workshop, anytime between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Victoria Butterfly Gardens reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any event due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of a cancellation by the Gardens, registered participants will be notified as soon as possible.
Cancellations by Guests: Refunds are available if you cancel at least 48 hours prior to the event time. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the event are non-refundable, though tickets may be transferred to another participant with prior notice.
Refunds will be processed using the original method of payment. Please allow up to 7–10 business days for the refund to appear.
Debra Thomlinson is a graduate of Advertising Arts with a major in Wildlife Illustration and has dedicated her career to celebrating nature through art.
A longtime naturalist and educator, Debra began her career leading interpretive nature tours while illustrating specimens for publication. An award-winning artist specializing in watercolour and coloured pencil, she has taught artists of all ages for more than two decades.
Debra is also the author and illustrator of five nature books highlighting the flora and fauna of Vancouver Island. In 2006 she opened Waterline Art Studio, where she continues teaching watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencil and ink while inspiring students to discover the beauty of the natural world.
